KNOW THE ARTIST
I was born and raised in San Fernando Valley, CA. My father was a carpenter. With his help I learned to use the various power and hand tools needed to work with wood. My mother was a professional musician and art was her hobby. I never had any formal training with regard to painting, but with her encouragement, several reference books and practice, I learned the elements of traditional oil painting. While in school, I continued to explore the worlds of art and photography.
In 1977, my professional career brought me to Cedar Rapids and I have lived here ever since. In the early 80’s, I watched a PBS show featuring William “Bill” Alexander and other artists including Robert Warren. Their enthusiasm and unique painting style inspired me. Using their books and
materials, I developed my skills in the wet-on-wet technique.
In 2015, I became an Alexander Certified Instructor (ACI). For the last several years I have continued studying with my friend and mentor Robert Warren. He has helped me challenge myself to explore different subjects and techniques in my creative journey.
Sunsets are one of my favorite subjects and Mother Nature is still the best source of inspiration for me
